Jody Platt
2025 Lifetime Achievement Award | Past President, NCJW Dallas | Columnist, Dallas Post Tribune
Jody Platt is a longtime advocate for social justice, education, and interfaith understanding, whose leadership has shaped both the Jewish and broader Dallas communities. Jody holds degrees in Elementary Education and Studio Art from the University of Houston. She began her professional life as an educator, teaching in Houston, Boston, and Sacramento, before settling in Dallas with her husband Mel in 1972.
Upon her arrival, Jody became actively involved with NCJW Dallas, serving in several leadership capacities—including as Co-chair of the Encore Thrift Store and later as Section President. Jody Platt’s presidency was marked by bold initiatives and community outreach, including the founding of Kids in Court.
In a defining chapter of her community work, Jody was invited by Dr. Theodore R. Lee Jr., editor of the Dallas Post Tribune, to write a weekly column introducing Jewish culture and values to the paper’s African American readership. What began as a single request evolved into a 17-year tenure, during which Jody helped build lasting bridges between the Jewish and Black communities in Dallas through thoughtful storytelling and advocacy.
Jody’s impact extends beyond her formal roles. She is an accomplished artist, a devoted reader, and a lifelong learner. Her menorah collection is a testament to her deep connection to Jewish tradition. Jody continues to be a source of inspiration to younger generations, including her children and grandchildren, all of whom are engaged in Jewish life and service.
The Lifetime Achievement Award from NCJW Dallas is a tribute to Jody’s unwavering dedication, compassionate leadership, and enduring legacy of justice, equity, and community engagement.
