This year, the Greater Dallas Section is supporting the projects that follow. Volunteers work on these projects or serve on our committees at convenient times during the day, evenings, or weekends.

To volunteer for any of our projects, please submit a volunteer application.

PROJECTS

Attitudes & Attire
Attitudes & Attire offers workshops developing self-esteem and work ethics to economically disadvantaged women. NCJW volunteers act as image consultants to help select professional clothing and accessories for the workplace.

Food + Fit = Fun
This bilingual program helps low-income parents prepare their preschool children for a healthy beginning for academic success and a healthy overall lifestyle. Partnering with HIPPY in DISD and RISD, Food+Fit=Fun promotes good nutritional habits and regular physical activities.

Hannah’s Group
For those who dare and desire to delve a bit further into advocacy, this very special “action group” empowers members to be effective advocates.

Hello Israel
This educational enrichment program introduces 6th graders to the country of Israel - its culture, people, history, geography, economy, and government, ancient and modern - and encourages friendships based on mutual understanding of diverse cultures..

HIPPY - Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters
HIPPY – Grand Prairie, Richardson, Irving, and Dallas ISD’s

Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) is a parent involvement, school readiness program that helps parents prepare their three, four, and five year old children for success in school and beyond.

Kids in Court
This program assists the Dallas District Attorney's office in preparing children who are potential witnesses in felony child abuse cases. Volunteers assist in making the courtroom and its procedures familiar to these children and their families.

Meals on Wheels - Jewish Family Service & Visiting Nurses Association
Meals on Wheels provides a hot, nutritious noontime meal and personal contact to disabled, ill, and frail homebound clients. Volunteers deliver meals through Visiting Nurse Association (1st and 4th weeks of the month) and throughJewish Family Service (Kosher meals four times a year).

Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center Docent Program
The Symphony Center hosts the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and houses the Herman W. and Amelia H. Lay Family Concert Organ. Volunteer docents provide public and private tours of the Center.

Parkland Hospital Newborn Hearing Screening Program
All babies born or transferred to Parkland receive a hearing screening prior to discharge. Volunteers perform hearing screenings for newborns in Parkland’s Continuing Care Nursery.

Service to Immigrant Families
Through its With One Voice coalition, NCJW acts as convener and coordinator of various area agencies involved in providing services to the immigrant community.

Programming & Study Groups
Volunteers help plan programs and study groups during the year. There are two meetings, two luncheons, and several study groups a year.

Vickery Meadow Learning Center
This center is an adult literacy program, dedicated to improving the communication and life skills of non-English speaking adults so they may function more productively in society.

Vickery Meadow Food Pantry
Funds from our Minnie Hexter Milk Fund provide for the purchase of shelf stable milk at the newly established Vickery Meadow Food Pantry.

WACHS (Women’s Access to Comprehensive Health Services)
This project provides young people in our community with medically accurate, age appropriate sexuality education through a curriculum designed by NCJW Dallas. It also distributes health information resource cards throughout the community, and advocates for greater access to comprehensive health services for women.

The items below may be brought to any NCJW meeting or to the office in the Preston Royal Shopping Center.

Donate-A-Phone
The national DONATE A PHONE® CALL TO PROTECT® campaign collects wireless phones to benefit victims of domestic violence. In the hands of a victim, these phones provide lifelines that enable them to call for assistance when faced with emergency situations. Wireless phones and accessories are needed. Phones do not need to be working. Phones are repaired and reprogrammed to provide domestic violence victims with a lifeline in an emergency.

COMMITTEES

Awards
This committee recommends individuals for local and national honors and awards.

By-Laws & Policies
Review the By-Laws & Policies governing the Greater Dallas Section of NCJW and recommend changes to the Board of Directors for approval.  

Communications & Public Relations
This committee is responsible for communicating NCJW programs and activities to the public through media access. Volunteers develop a PR brochure, video and website designs, to promote the activities of the Section to our members, the general public, corporations and businesses.

Financial Development
Volunteers manage our fundraising activities. Recent projects have included a raffle, an eBay auction, and a non-event fundraiser.

Grace L. Florence Tribute Fund
This restricted fund is designated to fund programs for the elderly. This committee researches needs in this area and makes recommendations to Research and Development.

Membership
Volunteers are needed to help recruit new members, plan friendly activities to tell people about NCJW, and serve as “buddies” to new members.

Minnie Hexter Milk Fund
This restricted fund is the only source of free whole milk and baby formula in Dallas County. This committee researches needs in this area and makes recommendations to Research and Development.

PACE
Public Affairs, Community Service, and Evaluation are the concerns of this committee, which evaluates ongoing projects and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors for approval. This committee meets between February and April, two or three times.

Programming
Volunteers are needed to help plan programs and study groups during the year. Two meetings, two luncheons, and several study groups a year—pick your interest and the time of year that is best for you!

Reba M Wadel Scholarship Fund
This restricted fund is designated to fund scholarships to graduate students in the fields of early childhood development and social work. This committee works with the faculty of TWU and UTA to determine the recipients and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors based on their research.

Research & Development
This committee researches the unmet needs of the community with regard to the four areas identified in the Strategic Plan and develops advocacy and community service programs to meet the needs. Upon approval by the Board of Directors, the programs are implemented through the Board structure.

Rita O. Black Tribute Fund
This restricted fund is designated to fund programs to strengthen families. This committee researches needs in this area and makes recommendations to Research and Development.

SHARE Endowment Fund
This endowment fund is designated to fund social service and public affairs projects not covered in the annual budget. This committee hears requests from the Executive Committee and determines funding from the endowment.

Yad B’Yad
This restricted fund is designated to fund programs in Israel. This committee makes recommendations to the Board of Directors based on collaboration with the NCJW office in Israel.

Yearbook
This committee organizes the data and sells ads to defray the cost of printing the Yearbook, NCJW’s membership directory.
